“Pinterest”ing {Tech Tuesday}

pinit label

Happy Tuesday, ladies!

How many of you are self-proclaimed Pinterest addicts?  My guess is that you are pinning anything from good recipes, party ideas, organizational tools, cleaning tricks, teaching resources, and more!  Where do most of these ideas and pins originate?

Someone’s blog!

That’s right.  Someone like you and me blogged about it, and others pinned it.  Then more repinned it.  Now, all of a sudden, their blog traffic has dramatically increased.  All because their blog post was “pinterest”ing.

Today, I wanted to share a quick and easy tutorial on adding a hovering “Pin It” button on your blog photos.

Everything starts on Pinterest’s Widget Builder page.  You will need to click on the “Pin It Button,” and choose “Image Hover” if you want the button to appear when readers hover over your pictures.

Once you have chosen the type of button you want,  you will need to Build It!  An HTML code will appear.  At this point, you will copy and paste the HTML code into your blog post.  I placed mine at the end of my post, but it gives you a suggestion for best results if you prefer.  The great thing is that you don’t have to do this for every single post.  It only needs to be put in once per page. That means that if your blog shows 5 posts per page…you will only put the HTML code in once every five posts.

If you want every post on your blog to be “pinnable,” simply paste the code in your template HTML just before the closing tag </body>.

Does that make sense?

Your finished product will look like this when you move your mouse over any image on your blog page…

How easy is that?  There are plug-ins available for WordPress.  “Pinterest “Pin It” Button Lite“…that is what we used on our own site.  This “hovering button” method is a general option for all blogging venues.

The thing is that people are going to try to pin your ideas anyway.  More than likely they are copying your photos without permission to pin them.  Why not make it easy for others to pin and repin so that they can all be directed back to your blog?

Grow your blog.  Share your ideas!

By the way, did you know we have our own Pinterest account?  If you are not following us yet, click here to follow us!  More to come on that later.
