Meet Miss January

January 9, 2014

Well, ladies, it’s hard to believe but it’s a new year! Time for a new start!

Let me start by introducing myself…I am Rachel, born and raised in Northeast Mississippi. I was raised in Burnsville, moved to Corinth at the end of my 9th grade year, and I’m still here!  (I hope I never have to leave.)

My sister and I were raised by a single mom, but we never wanted for anything physically, mentally, and emotionally. {She helped make me who I am today. I thank God for her every day!} I am blessed to still have both my grandmother and grandfather, and my step-grandmother. Who says my family has to be a “typical” family? Ha! We all get along so that’s all that matters. This past May, I gained a wonderful brother-in-law…and his family too! (Does that make them in-laws too…or “out-laws”?)  While I do not, as of yet, have any “blood” nieces or nephews, I have amazing friends whose children do, or will, call me “Aunt Rachel”…and I am glad to claim them!

I graduated high school and started community college with the idea of Pre-Med. I did graduate with my Liberal Arts degree (Pre-Med, still) and continued on to the University of Mississippi. I still continued to work toward medical school but was struggling to pass certain classes. I was not one who liked to fail so I continued to struggle along. I’m not sure exactly when I realized I might have to give it up but I STILL pushed on through the classes. During my last year at Ole Miss, I decided to double major in both Mathematics and Biology. While I realized I was probably going to need a back-up degree, I was still determined to go to medical school. I don’t remember exactly how the “epiphany” happened, but I finally realized medical school was NOT going happen, so I dropped the biology major. {I know God probably thought I was the most stubborn person He had ever dealt with. Ha!} So, when all was said and done, I graduated with a Bachelor degree in Mathematics. I did get certification to teach but that was definitely not for me (perhaps, another post for another day). After struggling to find a job after teaching, I am now employed and I love my job!

Sorry ladies, I hope I haven’t lost anyone after that long introduction!

Back to the basics: I have an adorable cat named Izzie. I love to travel. In my spare time, I love reading, going to the movies with friends, and spending time with family and friends. I love to sing…and dance (the dancing’s not pretty but I do it anyways…LOL). Although I haven’t been the greatest of bloggers, I plan to change that! You can find my crazy, serious, and “everything in between” at Single, with a Double Espresso Shot.

I am excited about this month’s theme. I look forward to sharing more with you lovely ladies. See you next time!
