Thrifty Sale Shopping

September 12, 2013

Hey ladies, it’s me – Kayla from Keeping Up With Kayla.  I’m back for another round of words for you.  Now, for those who know me IRL or have followed my blog for any given amount of time know something about me- I’m a yard sale queen. That’s right.  I’m the girl out at 7 AM on Saturday mornings scooping up deals while you pretties are sleeping.

It all started when I was a kid.  My mom used to go to yard sales a lot so it was just a part of life for me to go.  But as I got older and started mentioning the Saturday morning trips, people started giving me looks like I was buying nasty things.  Now, first let me say that yes, some sales are absolutely junk and it all needs to be moved to a landfill somewhere.  However, there are actually nice things out there if you are willing to look for them.

I can’t tell you how many household items I’ve bought for less than $5, and that being on the high end.  I’ve scored major deals on things.  When I first bought my house back in October of 2008, I went to yard sales with the intention of furnishing my house.  And I did.

Now, I’m not knocking anyone who wants to go to a store and find nice things to put in their homes and clothes for their families, but in my world it’s simply not feasible.  I live on a very strict budget where I don’t have but a small amount of “extra” money to play with outside of the monthly bills.  That’s where yard sales are my thing. I’ve learned which areas of town are “good” and which are to be avoided.  I’ve learned a good sale price vs a bad sale price.  I’ve become a somewhat pro at this, ha!

So, how do I motivate myself to get up that early on my only day off work? MONEY. I’ve saved so much it’s completely worth it.  And if you think 7AM is early, then you wouldn’t like to be with me come the 20th of this month.  I’ll be heading to an amazing neighborhood sale at Cordova.  It’s called the CountryWood Sale.  It’s an annual event for mom and I, and this year Cassie is going back with us for her second round.  And for what’s it’s worth- Cassie isn’t a yard sale girl and she loved it!

If you get a shot, you should come check it out!  But be there after me! HA!  I’m kidding!

In all seriousness, if you’ve never been to a sale or given it a good try- I encourage you to.  Not all sales will be great, but when you find a deal at one it makes all the bad ones worth it!  I’d love to hear your experiences!
