FTC Guidelines {Tech Tuesday}

October 8, 2013

We have all seen the blogs that post reviews for products/places/etc.

But I bet you haven’t paid much attention to the disclosures that are included in those reviews, because it’s just not where our eyes naturally want to go.  However, it is mandatory that you do make time for placing those disclosures in your posts.

The FTC recently updated their Dot Com Disclosure Guidelines back earlier in 2013.

All bloggers, “big and small” need to take time to read over these set of guidelines in case they ever face this in their blogging history.

In other words, if you ever are given a product in compensation (meaning for paid means, or just reviewing opinions) you still MUST abide by these guidelines.

So, if you are new to all this talk, you might be wondering what a “disclosure” is exactly.

A couple of examples could be:

  • “I was given financial compensation for my review of **** from **** company.”
  • “I was given **** product for review. All opinions are my own.***

We hope this helps! We all want to try and do/say the right thing in the blog-world!

Again, I encourage you to read the entire guidelines post.  It is a little long, but it is good information to have on hand, when needed.

Happy Blogging!
