Fitness Resources

November 18, 2014

I know that staying fit, especially when the temps get lower, can be difficult.  It’s hard to stay motivated.  I have found a couple of resources that help me combat the drag that the fall & winter months tend to bring.

First, sign up for a race!  It doesn’t matter what race or for how long, but just sign up.  I’ve found that if I invest money in something, then I’m a lot more likely to train for it or complete it.  Are you wondering where to find races in your area?  Check out the Mississippi Track Club for a list of races organized by date.  The city is out beside each race.  This past weekend I did the We are Community 5K benefiting the Little House of Central MS.  Another thing to consider – do races that benefit something you believe in or want to support.  You should do this for 2 reasons – 1. You’ll support a good cause and you’ll feel more connected to the race and 2. If something unexpected happens and you’re unable to race, at least your money went towards something good and you don’t have to feel bad about that.

Another way to stay fit with the colder temps is to do fitness as a group.  There are a lot of groups and resources in Jackson, MS (and probably close to your area of the state) where you can join others in staying fit at little to no cost.  I participate in the Java Jog every Wednesday morning.  It’s a free run, 2-3 miles, and you get a free cup of coffee afterwards.  It’s hosted by liveRIGHTnow and they also do other free running events throughout the week.  You can see their calendar of events here.  Other great resources are local running stores such as Stinky Feet & Fleet Feet.  They’ll help you get fitted for the right shoe and answer any of your running or fitness questions.  Stinky Feet has training groups for a very small fee.  They’ll schedule runs with you and help you train for a 5K all the way to a Marathon if you want.

Seek out what’s close to your area and find the fitness resources YOU need to help you achieve the goals you have set for yourself.  If I can answer any questions for you, please feel free to e-mail me at anytime – nobolognablog@gmail.com.  I love community and one thing I know for sure is that bloggers & runners/fitness guru’s understand what community is all about.  If you’re in the Jackson area, reach out and let me know if you want to join in on an activity I talked about – I’d love to meet you there!  See a race you’re interested in?  Let me know and I’ll try to come out and support you, I may even run it with you!  Fitness resources are available all over the state – find what’s right for you!

The last resource I want to share with you: Our MSWB Fall Fitness Challenge!  How are you doing?  Are you staying active for 30 minutes each day?  Don’t forget that we have a wonderful prize ready for the randomly selected winner who participated this month.  If we can do anything to help you, please let us know!
