Blog Buttons {Tech Tuesday}

September 24, 2013

Everyone knows how important first impressions are, right?

When new readers visit your blog, what impression do you give?  Is your blog attractive?  Is it organized?  Is it easy to read and navigate?  All these questions are important to consider when growing your blog.

Today, we are going to start with a basic blog button.  Blog buttons are great tools to use as you grow your blog.  Readers can copy and paste the code for your button…adding it to their blog.  This gives their readers a chance to find you.  We have had some requests for instructions to create blog buttons or sidebar images for your blog.  I should give a disclaimer here.  There are many ways you can go about doing this, and if you have a different way you would like to share…email us a guest post for Tech Tuesday!  We want you all to be as informed as you can be.  I am only sharing the method I use to create them.

I like to use PicMonkey (as I mentioned two weeks ago) to create blog buttons.  It’s easy and FREE!

I would suggest to make your blog button square.  The most commonly used size of a blog button is 150 x 150 pixels.  However, you can make it any size you need.  PicMonkey makes it very easy to change the size over and over again until it works for you and your blog.  If you are simply creating a sidebar image, feel free to create a rectangle or whatever shape you desire.

Here are a few examples of blog buttons and a sidebar image:

Once you have designed your button, you’ll want to save it, of course, and upload it to your media library.

We are sharing a website that you cannot live without!  Well, technically you can.  Ha!  But, I sure keep it in my back pocket now.  It’s like cell phones.  You won’t remember how you lived without it.  You do not need to know anything about HTML, because this website will do it for you!  It will generate the code for your blog button so that others can share it on their blogs.

And that’s it!  Go ahead.  Start creating your own blog buttons and share.

OH – and have you grabbed our button yet?  Add it to your blog and share the MSWB love!

Have fun playing and creating your own blog buttons!

Such helpful information for our readers!

🙂 thanks for this post but I still have a question…when I do link ups I copy the url for the button and post it in my blog but it doesn’t actually link back to the page- does that make sense? However, when I put in all the html info for a sidebar (like the MS Women button) it works – anyway to do this inside of a blog post? Thanks!
