Meet our April Blogger of the Month!

April 1, 2015

Hey ladies, my name is Whitney Caves and I’m excited to be guest blogging here at Mississippi Women Bloggers for the month of April! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor living in Clinton, MS, and I see clients at a couple of different locations in the Jackson area through Crossroads Counseling Center. Though I work with a variety of issues and clients, I particularly enjoy working with adult and teenage females.

Connecting with others is what I’ve always been best at, and for me counseling is a natural extension of this.  It is a huge honor that people choose to talk with me about the hard things that they may not feel like they can share with anyone else. If I had to sum up what I hope for each of my clients in two very simple statements they would be–1. That my clients will feel better and 2. That they will grow as people so they can continue to feel better and be healthy after our time together is over.

I love many things about being a counselor, but one of my favorite things is how much I learn from my clients.  No matter how long I am a counselor I hope I never stop learning and growing.  At my blog, Words From Whitney, I write about some of these lessons, the things God is teaching me in my own life, and the occasional adventure, because believe me, I often seem to attract “unique” interactions and experiences in life.

When I’m not counseling I love to laugh, read, cook, exercise, and make attempts at ridding my new-to-me home of all evidence of being built in 1983.  I have a particular fondness for salsa, the perfect shade of neutral pinkish nail polish, and a tall Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha with soy milk and no whipped cream.  But what I really love the most is just being with the people that are most important to me.  I am married to my best friend Will and we have one sassy cat and a wild dog.  I have a great family and the best friends anyone could ever ask for, and for this I am just so grateful.

This months theme is “renew” and I feel like this goes perfectly with the things I enjoy writing about.  You can say it a lot of ways–renew, recharge, refresh– but no matter how you word it, sometimes we just need to take a step back and look at things from a new and different perspective.  Whether we are stuck in some bad habits or just stuck in a rut, I think spring is a great time to take stock of things and make some small, refreshing changes.  I’m planning on covering several different areas of “renewal” this month and I hope you’ll come back to check it out!
